Kelcy Warren is the billionaire founder and Executive Chairman of Energy Transfer, the ignominious pipeline company notorious for deploying extreme force against environmental activists and land defenders protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline.
- The Dakota Access Pipeline was built to transport crude oil from The Bakken Field in North Dakota to Illinois, and has been heavily opposed by environmental justice and Indigenous rights activists for threatening the water supply and sacred sites for the Standing Rock Sioux.
- The Standing Rock Sioux, along with other tribes, opposed the pipeline’s construction. In fact, in spring 2016, members of various tribes, along with environmental activists, protested the pipeline’s construction. The calls to stop the pipeline were heard by President Obama, who called for an environmental review in December. However, after President Trump was inaugurated a month later, he proceeded to reverse the decision.
- In 2020, a federal judge revoked the permit to build the pipeline and ordered the Army Corps of Engineers to prepare an environmental impact analysis.
- Trump reported shares of Energy Transfer in both his 2015 and 2016 financial disclosure worth between 15,0001-$20,000.
Warren has donated and raised millions for Donald Trump and other Republican candidates.
- Warren first supported Trump during his 2016 campaign, when he donated more than $100,000.
- Warren initially supported Rick Perry (a board member of Energy Transfer) during the 2016 Republican primary. The oil & gas baron donated $6 million in total to the former Texas governor. Perry was later appointed Secretary of Energy during the first Trump administration.
- In 2020, Warren hosted Trump’s first in-person fundraiser, after the pandemic started. He raised $10 million for Trump during the 2020 campaign.
- In 2024, Warren initially supported Ron DeSantis, but eventually became one of Trump’s most prolific donors. He gave $814,600 to Trump’s campaign, and donated $5 million to Make America Great Again (MAGA PAC), a prolific Trump super PAC.
- Warren donated $10 million to America First Action, a pro-Trump super PAC that donated to a group that organized the rally that led to the January 6th insurrection.
