Letter To Judge Freeman Calling For Recusal

Anti-MonopolyEthics in GovernmentJudiciaryTech

On October 16, the Revolving Door Project sent a letter to Judge Beth Labson Freeman calling for her recusal in NetChoice, LLC v. Bonta. Judge Freeman granted a preliminary injunction to prevent California from enforcing the California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act (CAADCA), which regulates platforms that target content to children.

As we highlighted in our press release, Judge Freeman owns significant amounts of stock in companies that lobbied against the bill, including Apple, Microsoft, Comcast, and MasterCard. Judge Freeman’s financial interests in these companies may violate Canons 2 and 3 of the Code of Conduct for United States Judges.
