Congressional Oversight

Revelations of STOCK Act violations make it clear that she is unfit to serve

The Revolving Door Project and Demand Progress Education Fund have sent a letter to House Democratic Leadership demanding that they seek the resignation of Representative Donna Shalala (D-FL) from the Congressional Oversight Commission that is charged with overseeing the recently-passed coronavirus bailout.

Shalala has admitted that she failed to disclose various financial transactions as required by law during her tenure in Congress.

The letter may be found here.

Jeff Hauser, director of the Revolving Door Project said: “”Ignorance is no defense. Even Georgia Senator Kelly Loeffler, famous for suspiciously timed stock sales amidst the burgeoning pandemic, fulfilled some STOCK Act disclosure requirements during her first months in office. As America rightly wonders whether insiders in the Trump Administration might profit from the CARES Act, the country requires a new oversight appointee who brings righteous zeal and demonstrated skill at oversight and financial investigations to this incredibly challenging position.”

According to David Segal, executive director of Demand Progress Education Fund: “If Shalala remains on the Congressional Oversight Commission there will be ongoing investigations into the dealings of a leading investigator of the bailout. This is untenable and she must step down now so as to not undermine the Commission’s important work.”
