On the occasion of Lina Khan’s confirmation to serve as a Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission, Revolving Door Project Executive Director Jeff Hauser issued the following statement:
“With the author of Amazon’s Antitrust Paradox on the Commission, Jeff Bezos and his fellow moguls might want to start worrying. However, Lina Khan alone cannot bring in a new age of American trust-busting. Biden still has yet to name his assistant attorney general for antitrust halfway through his first year in office. We wrote all the way back in February about how Trump-era hires still held key roles in that office; James Attridge remains the Acting Chief of Staff today. We also don’t know who will serve as Biden’s FTC Chair, the individual who historically sets the overall direction for the agency. The long delay on these positions, and the names that have been trial-ballooned and shot down by ourselves and others, make it hard to full-throatedly celebrate this undeniable achievement. Biden has taken the right first steps, but seems tentative to commit to bringing in the new antitrust regime we so desperately need. We again hope that noted nepotist Steve Ricchetti, whose brother is a literal Amazon lobbyist, isn’t scaring the President away from taking on Big Tech and the other monopolists across our economy.”
