Today, Demand Progress and the Revolving Door Project sent a letter to President Biden reminding him that neither the White House nor Senate Democrats “should feel compelled to expedite the nomination and/or confirmation of Republicans to independent agencies” particularly while Democratic nominees remain languishing in the Senate due to years of Senate Republicans’ malfeasance. In recent years, Republicans have systematically stalled or blocked Democratic nominations to the independent agencies and in so doing have made the confirmations process little more than a bad-faith – and anti-democratic – tool for pointless partisan politicking.
The letter was featured in the Washington Post’s Early 202 on April 11th, 2023.
In the letter, Demand Progress and the Revolving Door Project detailed Republicans’ efforts to stall the nominations of Democrats to independent agencies such as the SEC, NLRB and others. The Revolving Door Project has also tracked Republicans’ excessive, cruel, and slanderous attacks on the best of Biden’s appointees, and traced the origins of the current crisis back to Republican manipulation of the confirmations process.
