In response to the Trump administration’s reckless appointments of conspiracy theorists and corporate hacks to US Attorney positions across the country, Revolving Door Project (RDP) announced a project to track their appointments. RDP senior researcher, Toni Aguilar Rosenthal released the following statement:
“U.S. Attorneys are hugely powerful actors, directing the on-the-ground enactment of federal prosecutorial priorities and policies across the country. Though these offices have historically maintained some degree of independence from the President, this administration has spent its time deriding prosecutorial independence while instead installing sycophants across these offices.”
“Donald Trump has so-far empowered election deniers, his own personal attorneys, corporate revolvers, and racist conspiracists by using interim appointments to avoid Senate confirmation battles. These appointments represent a further degradation of the rule of law and will result in devastating consequences for all Americans, especially the most vulnerable amongst us.”
“The Revolving Door Project is tracking these installations, nominations, acting officials, and the other actors running these offices, because when the only qualification to be a U.S. Attorney is that one is more loyal to Trump than to the rule of law, the inevitable consequence is the death knell of the idea that no one is above the law. We encourage all those committed to covering the Trump administration’s abuses to avail themselves of this resource.”
The tracker can be viewed on the RDP website, here and will be regularly updated to reflect changes made by the Trump administration.
